2009 Grey Arabian Mare

Sire: SASAKIS SAMURAI (*Sasaki x Jaleas ET by *Barich de Washoe)

Dam: FRANSIDSCA (*Sidi-Brahim x GG Catalina by *Ciato)

Breeder: Joy Smiley, Summerwind Spanish Arabians

I first fell in love with Salina when she was a foal. She moved with such spring and elasticity - even at such a tender age. It was already evident that she was going to be a big-bodied mare with all the attributes I was seeking - well-developed hindquarter, big barrel, deep chest, long hip, clean, straight legs, and an elegant neck. Her head was short and triangular, with HUGE dark Spanish eyes, large nostrils, and the sweetest expression!

Salina was bred by my dear friend Joy Smiley of Summerwind Spanish Arabians. I had long admired Joy's breeding program and was particularly interested in her mare Fransidsca, daughter of *Sidi-Brahim and paternal sister to my Macarena Brahima (*Sidi-Brahim x MA Halima Rouge). I was also a fan of Joy's stallion Sasaki's Samurai (*Sasaki x Jaleas E T by *Barich de Washoe). So, when I saw Salina - I felt as though it was meant for her to join my select herd at Dahabi Arabians.

However it was an entire year before I was able to make that happen, and in the fall of her yearling year Salina joined Dahabi Arabians. She had been incredible in the photos and video I had seen of her, but in person Salina was so much more than I had expected! In addition to being even prettier and typier in person, she was incredibly personable and sweet, and very gentle to work with. She was truly my dream filly in every way!!

Unfortunately, I only had Salina for a year and a half before my marriage ended in divorce and I had to let all my horses go. It was heart-wrenching to part with each of my horses, but it was especially devastating for me to say goodbye to Salina. She will forever be my "one that got away."
